Question

Why do I need to click twice when I select "View Online" in the Library catalogue?

Many of the journals and ebooks that the Library purchases are available via more than one platform. Each platform is associated with a different publisher or ebook/ejournal distributor. There can be significant differences between platforms—for example, coverage dates for ejournals, user interfaces, or terms and conditions.

Between September 2024 and April 2025, the Library tested a setting in the Library catalogue called "Direct Linking."
This meant that if you performed a search in the Library catalogue and selected "View Online" for one of the results, you would be taken straight to the content. If there was more than one option for your content, you would be taken directly to the first listed platform. The platforms were listed in alphabetical order.

This trial has now ended, and the Library has decided to switch off the Direct Linking setting. This change allows researchers to choose the most suitable platform for their needs, rather than having their options influenced by the alphabetical order of the platform names.
